Y en todo este tiempo se ha trabajado para presentar una nueva entrega del simulador de rally por excelencia, acorde a la nueva generación, con un resultado sorprendente. Aparecidas ya las versiones para Xbox 360 y PC, la última versión en llegar es la que analizamos, la versión para PlayStation 3. Renovada por completo, ColinMcrae evoluciona desde su interior, ofreciendo mucho más de lo esperado, pues además de pilotar coches de rally podremos conducir vehículos off road, incluso camiones. Cada clase de vehículos tiene sus propias características en el terreno, como son maniobrabilidad, peso, aceleración, etc., obligándonos a una rápida adaptación a la conducción de cada una de las clases. Aparte de las diferencias de diseño y respuesta, todos los vehículos coinciden en un acabado sublime, con un nivel de detalle excepcional que representan fielmente los vehículos reales en los que se inspiran. Durante la carrera, sufrirán daños en tiempo real, con una física bien aplicada, aunque creemos que le falta un poco de contundencia a la representación de los impactos, pues los vehículos parecen demasiado robustos. La física de partículas consigue emular por ejemplo el polvo de manera creíble y los distintos terrenos se verán afectados por el paso de los vehículos, deformando parte de sus superficies. El entorno casi fotográfico complementa el conjunto de alardes técnicos de los que puede presumir su nuevo y propio motor gráfico llamado Neon, muy potente y capaz de gestionar de manera ejemplar todos los elementos. El realismo conseguido es asombroso, discernido de la realidad gracias a una iluminación general algo exagerada y a una cierta neblina que acompaña todo el juego. Si en su apartado visual este Colin Mcrae Dirt deslumbra, su jugabilidad también le va a la zaga. Ya no correremos solos contra el crono en circuitos oficiales, sino que además tendremos múltiples modos de juego que irán desde correr contra adversarios en pista hasta el nuevo modo llamado Estrellato, en el que competiremos en distintas pruebas. Conforme las vayamos superando, conseguiremos dinero con el que comprar nuevos vehículos para competir, aunque no podremos modificarlos. El Campeonato de Rally típico de siempre y pruebas con distintas clases de vehículos, otorgan mucha profundidad y horas de juego. Es una lástima que no se haya potenciado más su apartado multijugador on-line, casi nulo en modos de juego. También son plausibles, el extenso catálogo de vehículos históricos, las distintas vistas que podemos escoger y las repeticiones de nuestras carreras. Como es habitual, el control es muy exigente, aunque la curva de dificultad es asequible para la mayoría. Cualquier leve movimiento será traducido y representado al milímetro.
